Armorum Legends
"Armorum Legends": Latin, meaning "clash of legends"
"The King of the Sand is not battle-tested, but his hunger for power gives him the strength of a thousand men! The Conqueror of Worlds enters his throne room, but he will never touch the throne. He is a shadow fighting an abyss. The King hurls his body from the battlements for the beasts to consume; the Conqueror of Worlds dies the death of an unworthy foe..."
This is one of my favorite songs on the album. It seeks to capture the battle between the Conqueror of Worlds and the King of the Sand, in the King's throne room. The whole album is building up to this song and the following song, Ultimate, which put a lot of pressure on them to be great. I'm pretty satisfied.
The structure of the song is pretty straightforward. The beginning represents the start of the battle as the Conqueror of Worlds feels his opponent out. The percussion drops out and the full orchestra comes in. The Conqueror of Worlds is finally displaying his talent for all to see. Up to this point he has been more legend than actual man. This portion of the song shows that he lives up to the hype. The intensity of this portion wanes though, and the percussion reenters, along with the King of the Sand's electric guitar reverses as the tide of the battle turns. The strings crescendo in a rather dissonant and unsettling way, illustrating the King of the Sand's brutal fighting style as he goes into a frenzy. The final hits illustrate the last breaths of the Conqueror of Worlds as he is defeated, much to his surprise.
